Lantern Glow

I waited for you

by the lantern glow,

under the oak tree

where we played as kids—

our initials still

carved into the wood.

At my feet, rain gathers,

my reflection in the water,

older now.

A memory rises

from the fog

beneath the ground,

then slips back again

to the edge of my mind.
